In the poem Richard Cory Robinson describes thecharacter Richard Cory as being wealthy generoushandsome and courteous Regardless of his social statusRichard Cory greets the townspeople who thought that hewas perfect At the end of the poem Robinson surprise thereader by stating that Richard Cory had shot and killedThe people of the town were blind to see that RichardCory was unhappy Richard Cory was generous and kind toall the townspeople because he wanted a friend He greetedin hope of starting a conversation so maybe he could meetsomeone The townspeople only knew him because of hiswealth and in the same sense they were afraid of it The townspeople didnt know how lucky they reallywere Just because they didnt have the wealth of RichardCory they thought they were poor but actually they wererich not with money but with love and friendship Theywere blind as they cursed the bread Richard Cory wouldhave gave anything to have what the townspeople had andThe reason why Richard Cory went home and shothimself is because that he had no one to enjoy his wealthand life with him While the townspeople were sittingaround together at their dinner tables without meat andcoursing their bread Richard Cory sat around his dinnertable with his meat but very lonely and sad
