The Scarlet Letter shows throughout the entire book both sin and evil The people that showed the most sin andor evil throughout the book were Chillingworth Dimmesdale Hester and Pearl All of these people have done something evil or have committed some sort of sin that everyone knows about Chillingworth was the one that demonstrated the most evil On the other hand Pearl Hester and Dimmesdale were the sinners Roger Chillingworth came to Boston in disguised as a doctor He changed his name to Chillingworth so that no one would know who he was He found out about the sin his wife Hester committed through the towns people In which case he decided to visit her in jail At the jail he asked Hester to tell who the father of Pearl was but she refused Between thee and me the scale hangs fairly balanced But Hester the man lives who has wronged us both Who is he75 After trying to convince Hester to tell who the father of Pearl was he failed he then asked her for a favor not to tell anyone who he was the father and she agreed From that moment on Chillingworth was out to seek revenge against the father of Pearl Thou wilt not reveal his name Not the less he is mine76 When he went out into the town as the doctor he got his first patient was Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale Arthur Dimmesdale was the reverend of the town He was the one that everyone came to with their problems but what no one knew was that he had his own problems to deal with Dimmesdale was the father of Hesters baby Pearl Dimmesdale had slept with Hester thus committing the sin of adultery Having to live the guilt in his heart was tearing him to pieces He did bodily harm to himself all the time he even went as far as to carving the letter A into his
