Skull and Jaw The skull provides the brain protection from injury The skull is composed of 21 different bones connected together The jaw is connected to the skull with a temporomandilar joint The jaw moves open and closed to help us chew our food and to communicate A common disorder of the jaw is called TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint disorder which causes dull aching pain and clicking noises or your jaw can be locked open or closed Breastbone Ribs Vertebrae The breastbone and the ribs protect most of the vital organs The breastbone and the ribs are made up of 24 bones which all come together at the sternum The vertebrae holds your middle body up and gives your back support to stand up It enables you to bend and flex but still holds you up Some common disorders on the vertebrae is a crushed or dislocated vertebrae from falls or other trauma You can also break your ribs which is very painful and makes it hard to breath Hip and Pelvic area The hip and pelvic area are made up of two different bones the femur and the pelvis The femur is the largest bone in the human body The femur and pelvis come together in a ball and socket joint This joint allows us to move our legs and walk Inside this joint there should be healthy cartilage which absorbs shock and reduces friction from movement Injures in the hip and pelvic area are usually fractures other trauma or due to arthritis One type of arthritis in this joint is called Osteoarthritis which is the loss of cartilage in the joint and causes bone to rub on bone which is very painful Another disease is Osteoporosis which causes the bones to become thin and break which can spontaneously occur Shoulder joint The shoulder joint is made up of three different bones called the Clavicle the Scapula and the Humerus They
