Step Up or Back Up A year and a half ago as I was wheeled into the operating room awaiting my open heart surgery there were only three things on my mind Would I die Would I ever see my friends again Would I ever be able to play sports At first my focus was on my newly acquired ability to participate in sports But I later found out that I could also meet many friends that way Now whenever I have free time I enjoy playing sports and hanging out with my friends Playing sports is a fun and exciting way to meet new people and it also got me in great physical shape For example as a freshman I got the opportunity to play football this year Among my teammates I have found many friends with whom I have become very close Meeting cheerleaders was just one of the added bonuses of playing football In addition before I had the opportunity to play football I was not very active All the strenuous activities involved in football built endurance in me That in turn helped me with my basketball tryouts this year While some people like to be lazy during their free time as you can see I am very active When football ended it gave me an opportunity to work out and go places with my friends For example working out is a very hard and frustrating activity It took my friends and me a while to see results but within a few months we saw a difference Because of its intensity working out together has brought my friends and me closer In addition aside from working out my friends and I go many places The mall is one of the places we visit frequently Seeing a movie and eating is one of the many things we do there Whether working out or just having fun I know my friends are there
