Outside Reading 1Mila 18 is set in the late 1930s into the 1940s in Warsaw Poland Most of the main characters in the novel are Jewish since it takes place during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising Andri and Alexander are two characters who are in the desperate struggle to preserve their rights against the Nazi persecutors Deborah and Paul are also principle characters De3borah is Andreis older sister and Paul is her husband These four characters bud heads periodically throughout the book due to different points of view on certain issues Mila 18 Does a good job leading up to the German invasion of Poland and the gradual persecution of the Jews It shows how the destruction of their rights affected them and how they were eventually able to fight back 2Paul Andrei Deborah and Alex all have a unique relationship with one another In the beginning there is a lot of conflict between them but as it progresses they begin to work with one another- 1 -Preferred CustomerPage 11222002r much better Ass more and more of their freedoms are taken away they begin to think the same way that is they all want to get it back In the beginning Alex wanted to do nothing but negotiate while Andrei only wanted to use force When the negotiating failed they all turned to using force as their last possible option To survive in the ghetto they had to get along and find a way of getting out 3This book is filled to the top with conflict whether it is the oppression of the Jews in the main plot or the conflict within a relationship between couples The main plot has to do with the Polish Jews being put into a small ghetto in Warsaw and their attempt to break out of it To the Germans surprise the Jews within the Ghetto put up any amazingly tough fight almost defeating the Germans
