The book Wasted that was written by Mayra Hornbacher is a memoir that tells the story of the authors fight with years and years of dealing with the related diseases and side effects of bulimia and anorexia nervosa Throughout the entire book there are times when although she has extreme anxiety and uncommon thoughts about her body there was still a sense that she wanted to rid herself from the disease and be normal When Mayra is in the beginning stages of this disease her parents were different not in the idea that they didnt love her maybe that they just didnt really know what to do with her She was an only child and her parents cared but spent little time actually knowing the person that she really was Mayra seemed very self indulged and although this book was about her own personal story she seems to not acknowledge the suggestions and worries that her friends and family have for her She mentions in the story that her goal is not to be thin but to know that she could do it and get away with it Mayra had a lot of passive aggressiveness in her that lead her to believe that although her friends especially dont want her to do it she has the attitude that she can do whatever she wants and does the opposite of what is suggested She seems to be really obsessed with not really how she looks on the outside but wants to make herself happy on the inside When Mayra is younger she never really searched her natural talents and found something that she found any happiness in doing Binging and purging was something that she found happiness in doing she writes this I went in the bathroom and threw up for the first time since I had been hospitalized Stood up looked at my face in the mirror No puffiness no marks like there used to
