Perhaps it is unlikely that a single person can change the world but they can certainly make a difference in someones life Whether it is providing food for the homeless mentoring the less educated or just spending time with a friend in need you can always make a difference Regardless of the size of your contribution it is the time taken out of your life which can make what you do mean a great deal to someone in need I believe that I have made a valuable difference in the world In the past I have done volunteer work through New York Cares New York Cares is a non-profit agency dedicated to assisting people in need and to making our city a better place to live through creative giving I volunteered with my sister to help a group of less fortunate 5 to 12 year old children learn how to swim I can not describe just how rewarding it was to give something so special to those children They all were brought up in poor environments which did not allow them to live the lifestyle that I was fortunate enough to have had Sadly many of them had never been in a pool before We spent the entire day in the pool with them Some of the children were a little bit scared initially but I helped give them the confidence they needed to approach the water Upon overcoming their fear the children had incredible motivation to learn what they had only seen on television in the past By the end of the day many of them were jumping right into the water it was quite shallow of course and having the time of their lives It was an experience that neither those wonderful children nor I will ever forget Sometimes we make a huge difference and do not realize it until after the fact Being a good friend
