JD Salinger wrote the novel of the Catcher in The Rye in the first person point of view of its main character Holden Caulfield There are some advantages and disadvantages because the author is an adult man but the main character of the story is a teenaged boy The theme and the tone of the story changed continuously because there are differences in attitudes between adults and teens The reason why the author told the story in the first person point of view is that he wanted to give some ideas a bout how adolescences should behave in different problems which may face them in their life so he wrote events and made it seem realistic Also he related it to a teenagers life The advantages are that the author focused in one character which helps the readers to focus on the theme of the story and teach teens the way that they should behave in difficult situations Moreover the disadvantages are that the author did not tell what happen to other characters in the story Also he did not clarify the rewards of those characters which made the end of the story mysterious and unclear The advantages that the author expected from writing his novel from first person point of view of its main character Holden were to get the readers to know the main character better and the way he thinks or behaves In order to understand the idea of the story He tried to make it more realistic and attractive for teenagers to read his novel and learned how to solve their problems by their own besides to know how to behave with adults from Holdens experiences For example when Maurice told Holden to give him the extra 5 Holden refused I told you about ten times I dont owe you a cent I already gave her the five Salinger 101 This event shows how Holden behaved with an adult
