What I have learned about old English is that most of its story were spoken directly other than being written and read This Is called Vanacular I wonder if the stories that were created during that era or period were similar or same in terms of how problems start and end and with hers and villains or if the characters are the same In this essay i will explain the characteristics from the characters of Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney which are Beowulf and Grendel and From Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by Keith Harrison Helen Cooper which are Gawain and the Green Knight In The Poem Beowulf Beowulf is the hero of it He goes to the Scyldings aid to help and beat Grendel who was causing havoc and killing everyone in sight Beowulfs father had a misunderstanding with Hrothgar King of the Danes First he goes to battle with Grendel and wins victory Then Grendels mother comes back for her sons revenge and she loses too Beowulf was named King for years that came During his ruler shiphe destroys yet another villain This time a dragon He goes to battle and reaches victory once more but he dies as well during the battle You Can say he died for his people and his land like a true king would Unlike Beowulf Grendel is the complete opposite to him He was eating people who was in his sight creating hell for the town and its people and the Danes for twelve years When Beowulf meets Grendel they go into battle and destroys him And to show the people of the town he did indeed destroy the monster he pulled of his arm which was than created into a trophy Grendels mother comes in search of that arm and to destroy the man who had killed her son She manages to steal the trophyarm Beowulf tracks her down and
