Two Kinds Conflict Essay Conflicts or problems occur in almost every book or story There are two different kinds of conflicts internal which are inside the body like feelings and external which are outside the body In the short story Two Kinds by Amy Tanthere are both internal and external conflicts between Jing-mei and her mother throughout the story Jing-mei and her mother have some very good examples of internal conflicts For example Jing-mei feels sad because she cannot become the great person her mother wants her to be This shows that Jing-mei feels horrible about letting her mother down by not becoming the dream her mother wants In addition Jing-mei tells her mom that she hates her and wants herself to die This shows that she has a lot of hatred towards her mother By the way her mother reacts to this it shows that the mother cares about what she says and feels Internal conflicts occur frequently in this short story External conflicts also occur too Like internal conflicts Jing-mei and her mother also have external conflicts For example her mother gets her a piano so she could learn to play and become famous like the kid on television This shows that her mother really wants her to become something of herself It also shows that her mother knows she could do anything if she put her mind to it In addition her mother forces Jing-mei to sit down and play the piano This shows that her mother is getting angry with Jing-meiIt also tells us that her mother knows that Jing-mei can play the pianoAs it is proven Jing-mei and her mother have both internal and external conflicts Jing-mei and her mother although have lots of problems they work it out in the end Amy Tan the author has written both internal and exernal conflicts in this story
