Some say the development of a child during its early years are pivotal to determine its later personality traits and the kind of relationships it has with other siblings parents and friends Through studies of deprivation some theorists also say that this early bond the baby has with its mother can had an adverse affect on the childs development not only with relationships but with the speed at which the childs language is developed A baby grasps the concept of all five vowels before they do the consonants and only by age four are they thought to be fairly confident with all letters of the alphabet In early speech the consonants are used correctly at the beginning of said words by the child but the last letters prove a little more difficult They seem to simplify the pronunciation by deleting these offending final letters and with them certain syllables or sounds Eg leaving the t sound off of mat Not only is this true with the last letters but other unstressed parts of an otherwise complicated word are often left out to simplify the pronunciation Eg banana then becomes nana Clusters of more than one consonant are often simplified too to ease the pronunciation of a specific word Eg Sleep becomes seep By the age of eighteen months a baby is thought to have a vocabulary of around 50 words but is able to understand about 250 When they hear one of these understandable words they are yet to appreciate the full range of its meanings But can relate it to a person object or action without being able to pronounce the word itself The first words a child speaks often refer to people such as mummy or daddy familiar objects like ball and shoes and fairly simple social interactions such as hello and bye-bye As the young children develop this understanding of objects people and interactions not only do they need to remember
