Our society is split into two classes There is the dominant class and there is the subordinate class The dominant class is defined as superior to the inferior subordinate class I believe the way people live their daily lives is very dependent on the system we have developed Our relationships our perceptions and ideas and the way we act all revolve around our two classes There is a dominant and a subordinate between many groups of people For example men are dominant women are subordinate Rich are dominant poor are subordinate Whites are dominant blacks are subordinate Then there is also the role of parentchild and teacherchild in which a dominant and subordinate position is taken respectively Miller stated that the dominant group is the model for normal human relationships Since the dominant group is destructive of the subordinate group it is no wonder our society acts the way they do in relationships Since it is normal to be destructive we our society dont see what is happening We are blind to the big picture It is easy to act normal but behave in a way that does not treat others well I am a member of a dominant group and a subordinate group All of my life I have been convinced that racism has not been a problem that everything is right and good In reading Millers essay I have opened my eyes to the fact that I belong to a group that dominates people of color And although I knew that all along I did not apply the concepts of domination and subordination to this aspect of my life before According to Marx super structural ideals gain universal acceptance by the subordinate classes as they those of the base are made to believe that the ruling ideas are the only valid rational ones I love the example Miller showed about women pretending to be dumb I have seen this happen so many times
