Personal Essay Driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs is a major cause of injury and death of young adults What steps would you suggest The problem of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs became one of the main in our society In 2000 47 percent or 104 million people of Americans aged 12 or older indicated that they had used alcohol during the month prior to the survey Beside the saddest statistic is that in 1999 15786 persons died in the United States in alcohol-related crashes That is one death every 33 minutes More than 300000 people were injured in alcohol-related crashes But why Lets look closer at this problem There are many different reasons for drinking and driving for young adults As for me the main reason for this is influence of older friends and adults During many parties young people feel pressured by others Friends start to make fun of you call you sissy or mamas boy and finally you cant hear it anymore and start to drink with others To prevent such thing is impossible because you just cant imprison teenager at home That is why the best choice is to became a friend of your son or daughter to have even bigger influence on them Many parents fail to do that at first and later on just cant help any more My personal advise is to never punish your child after parties or drinking It will not help because what was done was done is in past and you just cant return it You will only put yourself further apart from teenager who needs support Try to talk and not yell Try to explain and not to be annoying Try to make your kid trust you and never use it against you son or daughter Believe me punishing only make thing worse It is in mined of human being do things which are restricted
