The essay Unfair Game by Susan Jacoby presents first hand examples of sexual harassment Susan Jacoby and a woman friend were talking in a hotel restaurant The two of them were interrupted by a male caller The man persistently flirted eventually Susan snapped at the man and roughly asked him to leave His response was anything but complimentary She then cites two more interactions with men The second interaction is her ideal scenario A man asks her if she will have a drink with him Jacoby declines and the man excuses himself for disturbing her She enjoys this simple courtesy that has all but disappeared since the 1960s sexual revolution Relative sexual freedom occurring from the sexual revolution has been a mixed blessing This freedom makes it harder for one to keep a relationship but allows more opportunities to be explored Susan Jacoby describes this freedom to explore with prejudice the men in her story were unwelcome and over-ambitious It seems she feels that sexual freedom has allowed women to become fair game I agree with Susan Jacoby However there are times when women use this to their advantage Some women use their sex appeal to get ahead in life work and social settings Attractive women are usually given an inordinate amount of attention and occasionally take advantage of that Women without tickets try to get into concerts by flirting with security Many women will start crying when they get frustrated to get what they want Crying women are women in distress and many men will go out of their way to help crying women Feminist might claim that men and society dehumanize women and treat them as objects This is unfortunate but is occurring at all times This claim isnt as legitimate as it sounds Society is comprised of men and women Women too reduce other women to the status of objects Ive heard women refer to other women as sluts and whores more
