The purpose of this essay is to discuss and analyze the main historical trends in the US history from 1870 to 1914 It will show how Reconstruction was a period of 1862-1870 in United States history during and after the American Civil War in which attempts were made to solve the political social and economic problems arising from the readmission to the Union of the 11 confederate states that had seceded at or before the outbreak of war After the reconstruction it began and era of a modern nation state After the Civil War the Republicans had led congress and have discouraged the industrial and commercial development and also the western expansion But in 1865 the northern victory have restore the union and accelerated the industrial revolution in which was not only a phenomenon it also transformed rural life as well The resistance between the new industrial markets forces and the traditional ways generate political and social revolts during the middle of 1800s to the middle of 1900s The developments of a new modern nation also promote to confrontations between Native Americans and west settlers between the 1870-1890 As early as 1862 Pres Abraham Lincoln had appointed provisional military governors for Louisiana Tennessee and North Carolina The following year initial steps were taken to reestablish governments in newly occupied states in which at least 10 percent of the voting population had taken the prescribed oath of allegiance Aware that the presidential plan omitted any provision for social or economic reconstruction the Radical Republicans in Congress resented such a lenient political arrangement under solely executive jurisdiction As a result the stricter Wade-Davis Bill was passed in 1864 but pocket vetoed by the President Tindall and Shi 719 After Lincolns assassination April 14 1865 Pres Andrew Johnson further alienated Congress by continuing Lincolns moderate policies The Fourteenth Amendment defining national citizenship so as to include blacks passed Congress in June 1866 and was ratified despite rejection by
