When choosing a favorite movie I am Sam definitely would be at the top of the charts This movie has comedy and drama wrapped into one I literally laughed and cried throughout its intirety Its been a long time since Ive been touched by a movie in this way The portrayal of the characters and the storyline was so realistic I believe that aspect is what made this movie so great It was one of the highest rated movies at the time of its release Its definitely one of my all-time favorites Sam who is portrayed by Sean Penn is a mentally challenged single father who is trying to regain custody of his daughter With the relunctance of a high class lawyer portrayed by Michelle Pfieffer Sam goes to court to try and prove that he can meet the needs of his young daughter Unfortunately because Sam is not what society calls normal he was unsuccessful Sam like any other parent who has lost a child gives up on everything in life His lawyer goes to him and appologizes and lets him know that together they could get his life back on track Sam is able to do so slowly but surely and manages to get a job move closer to his daughter and eventually regain an ongoing relationship with her Unfortunately the movie is a harsh reality as to how the handicapped is portrayed in todays society Hopefully after watching this movie society will realize that just because someone is different doesnt mean they cant be normal Mentally challenged and handicapped people want the same things out of life They deserve the same respect and understanding as the next person I highly recommend this movie and who knows after watching it you may even change your point of view
