In the movie The Usual Suspects directed by Bryan Singer five men suspected of hijacking a truck filled with guns are brought together by the police for questioning The five ex-cons Michael McManus Dean Keaton Fred Fenster Todd Hockney and Roger Verbal Kint are the main characters in this film Brought together via unusual circumstances the five become co-workers and plan out several jobs together The main goal of this movie is to show the audience that looks can be deceiving This is shown through the use of Verbals character Verbal is a physically disabled con who despite his disability can run pretty good jobs Verbal is brought in for questioning and is talked into telling the police everything that he knows about a boat that exploded in San Pedro California with 91 million dollars on board After releasing Verbal from questioning the police officer looks around the room and realizes that all of the names that Verbal used in his story were on various items around the room The police underestimated Verbals intelligence because of his physical characteristics viewing him as a dumb cripple who didnt have very high self-esteem Verbal tells the police his story including the role of Mr Soze in his profession Verbal tells about this man who is feared in the crime circle and who Verbal tells the police killed Keaton in San Pedro The police never suspect that Verbals story about this Soze character is complete fiction because they dont think the Verbal is smart enough to concoct such a story Verbal is underestimated and this allows him to be released from questioning without a second thought even though he and his made up character Soze are one in the same The police also dont know that Verbal uses his physical disability to purposely throw them off of his trail Verbal has a severe handicap when he walks and this consequently slows him down However his entire character as
