When it comes to health and beauty Canada is a land where thin is in and anything else is unacceptable There was a time when voluptuously full women were considered a sign of beauty and wealth Today we think of obese people as objects of ridicule and being obese in this country is considered to be a modern day social outcast Due to societys view that obese people are improper we often overlook the dark side of the national obsession to lose weight These negative factors are usually neglected because the evidence that links obesity to unhealthiness is often one-sided general practitioners enforce the thought that being obese is harmful and the media has infatuated society with unreliable health gimmicks Because of the enormous pressure to lose weight one would think that the evidence of the risks of obesity and the benefits of losing weight would be accurate Unfortunately the evidence that losing weight is beneficial is derived from unreliable statistics They are questionable because these studies fail to consider the ever changing subject matter These studies are usually biased because the subjects are usually unhealthy because of other reasons not including obesity Its like finding a needle in a haystack to find out if obesity is truely the main cause of ill health Another factor that contradicts medical evidence that obesity is connected to sickness is that there is no proof that losing weight will make one healthier Studies have shown that losing weight is effective in improving health but other studies have also proved that weight loss contributes to deteriorating health Thus eventhough these studies are statistically correct the flaws in them may mislead people into thinking that losing weight is the cure to all ailments when it actually is not as helpful as it is made out to be Given the unsubstantial evidence some influential physicians are still enforcing that losing weight is beneficial to obese people One doctor described obesity as
