In many countries the rapidly increasing population has become problematic There are too many people and not enough food and too little land The solution does not seem as simple as the question of how can one control the number of people born without violating human rights interferes However China does not appear to have such complications as they have come up with the One Child Policy This policy was made to control Chinas rising population still is it possible that there is negative long term effects to this policy With the decline in fertility children to adults ratio and abandonment of the female children in favor of male it is really possible that the One Child Policy consequences is damaging to Chinas future The One Child Policy has changed the place of the Peoples Republic of China in the global economy It has been successful in regards of curbing the population growth aiding economic expansion and raising the populations standard of living Nakra 134 The idea of controlling the birth rate in China was first introduced in the 1950s During this time bans preventing abortion and birth control were revoked and China started to mass produce and distribute contraceptives This first national Family Planning Office was inaugurated in 1958 and put on the project of fertility reduction As this was just a start rural areas remained predominantly unaffected by the Family Planning Office until after the Cultural Revolution in 1966Henneberger In 1979 Deng Xiaoping leader of China at the time introduced the One Child Policy as a new solution to Chinas demographic dilemma of runaway birth rates Nakra 134 Essentially the One Child Policy was a way to put China on the track of modernizing and economic growth and it actually succeeded in doing just that According to AJ Jowett the One Child Policy has a number of policies within it that depend certain situations and locations Jowett states a series of regional policies
