Analysis of Juvenile Homicide A great majority of Americans think that crime is the greatest concern for the nation Cole 3 Even though statistics in the FBI Uniform Crime Reports show that crime decreases slightly each year Americans are consumed with crime FBI Crime Reports 1 More specifically juvenile violent crime and juvenile homicide This nation of parents pay full attention to the horrible crimes their children seem more and more prone to committing because even though crime statistics have declined youth homicide has tripled FBI Crime Reports 2 With this information in mind one might ask What exactly makes these juveniles commit violent crime I have studied the effects of many social relationships such as gangs victimization and neglect at home to which minors have easy access to in todays society Before any thought can be given to these social relationships or the effects of them on juveniles I hope to prove that only the parents themselves are to blame I believe that no matter what kind of activities the child engages in their parent or parents must still be held responsible for the death of someone when their child is the one who has pulled the trigger Osmanski 2 There are many reasons that juveniles become killers The first motive to examine is victimization or bullying Children build up anger inside when they are picked on which is a normal reaction from any human However I think that with the freedom todays society gives to children the child feels he can do anything necessary to stop being victimized As Dewey Cornell Director of the Virginia Youth Violence Project has stated in his article Bullying by classmates is a serious and pervasive problem but one which has been around so long that we have tended to minimize its importanceencourage or facilitate violent responses to bullying Cornell 1 Americans think that victimization or bullying is the primal basis that children
