Analysis of The Road Not Taken Robert Frosts poem The Road Not Taken begins with two roads which symbolize his opportunity for a career change The yellow woodline l indicates he is not a young man an he is sorry he cannot combine both jobs into one He gives the choice every consideration but it is difficult to see that far into the future And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth2-5 He decides to take a chance with the new career even though it is not much different from the present job He is looking forward to the change with a little reluctance but hopes it will be for the best which is indicated in lines 6- 10 Then took the other as just as fair And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same6-10 He can choose either career because they are both beneficial which will allow him to return to the first if the second does not prove to satisfy him although he knows it will not happen Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back1415 In the final stanza Mr Frost is thinking about his retirement years and how he will talk about his first career with fond memories He writes that he has two choices and he chooses the best for himself Two roads diverged in a wood and I I took the one less traveled by And that has made all the difference18-20 Louis Untermeyer author of The Pocket Book of Robert Frosts Poems analysis of the word difference is The poets difference is in him from
