The Rookie Rear ends really sore What a long ride Get off the bus--your shoes are untied Youve got your food--a weeks supply Water bottle leaks-soaks your thigh Coaches pep talk-Seniors say nothing new Youre starting to get nervous--youre turning blue Warm-up rounds-dont want to get cold Weve done this before--Man this is old Sit down after warm-up--relax and unwind You have a half-hour till racetime--truly unkind Stretch out your muscles-avoid a pull Then head to the bathroom--bladders full Fifteen Minutes to go--better head to the start Do some build-ups--Man this is gonna hurt Five Minutes till race time--runners on the line Dont get nervous--Youre going to do fine Runners take you marks--the race starter wails Just think to yourself--the winds in your sails He shoots the gun--the race is underway You feel as if youre a needle in a stack of hay Runners all around you--colors of all sort Why did I choose this God forsaken sport The course tightens up--people falling all around Next thing you know youve hit the ground Its become a stampede--somebodys stepped on your leg The spike marks are bleeding--youre a chick in an egg The ground is cold and wet--like your kitchen floor Somehow you get up and race again once more The first mile has already come and gone You didnt notice it--but youre not having fun The second mile comes--youre still alive You hear a man shout out Ten-fifty five Wow you think Im going pretty fast Im just hope for the last mile it will last The finish line looms near up ahead Times like this you wish you were dead Your muscles are tired sore weary and weak But you cant slow now youve got a goal to
