Analysis of the song Forsaken For my report I chose my favorite song Forsaken written by Jonathan Davis and Richard Gibbs for the movie Queen of the Damned There are two versions of this song the movie version sung by its main character the vampire Lestat and the soundtrack version sung by David Draiman of the band Disturbed For my analysis I chose the movie version In first I will analyze the performer The vampire Lestat is played by the Irish actor Stuart Townsend who is not a real life singer His singing voice is supplied by Korns lead singer Jonathan Davis who has a very distinct voice As the song begins his voice low raspy and seems to convey anger That changes quickly and his voice becomes more melodic yet slightly nasal This however is not a weakness because it suits the mood of the song very well He controls his voice very well never once is he off-tune or flat He is definitely an amazing singer he sings well and also puts a lot of emotion into his music As he sings he sounds despairing and angry at the same time which is if you look at the general theme of the song very accurate The song itself is very dark as it should be since it is coming from the point of view of a vampire who has spent centuries alone depressed and frustrated The melody is quite relaxed and very mournful You can feel the vampires pain and sorrow coming out in the voice the lyrics and the melody itself The rhythm is kept constant through the drumming and the dynamics are varied The lyrics convey the same darkness and despair as the melody does The first part tells us that the vampire was confused about his eternal life but he can now see that the immortal life he has been given means that he is to be forsaken by
