During his time on Earth Jesus taught thousands of people the messages of God in heaven The followers of Jesus were taught the Word through Parables Parables explain deep messages and morals in short easily understood stories In the Gospel of Mark chapters 4 and 13 Jesus addresses a large crowd and his disciples with some of the Bibles most important teachings In Mark 41-9 Jesus has placed himself inside a boat on the sea while a great crowd stood beside the sea on the land On this boat Jesus tells the parable of the sower and the seed Jesus told the crowd that as the man sowed some of the seed fell upon the path Some seed was snatched up by birds and some had no soil and sprang up quickly only to be scorched by the sun and wither away because it had no roots Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns choked it Finally the other seed fell into good soil and it brought forth grain growing up and yielding thirty and sixty and a hundred fold Mark 4 4-8 When Jesus is alone after his teachings his disciples come to him and question him about the meaning behind the parable To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God but for those outside everything comes in parables Mark 411 The disciples are told by Jesus that they are on the inside and they can truly understand the message behind the parable but those in the masses may indeed look but not perceive and may indeed listen but not understand so that they may not turn again and be forgiven Mark 412 So the reason behind Jesus parables is to create a realization of how to live properly although to be saved one does not have to be proper It is a way to confuse the masses so that they cannot realize the truth and then turn away
