Before the invention of television and video games childrens only form of entertainment was to play games outside with other neighborhood children Today that is not the case Many children return home after school and do not loose sight of the television until the go to sleep The parents of these children do not believe that sports have major benefits and should not be apart of their childrens lives Over the past decades there has been major change in our society that have caused the organization of childrens sports Before this time free play and sandlot sports dominated the leisure time of American children Among these changes is a limited amount of recreational facilities the progressive loss of open space and vacant lots in cities and suburbs There is a significant smaller amount of open fields for children to play in today due to the building of new suburbs Also today people are less friendly and less likely to interact with each other Therefore their children are less likely to meet and play games outside with each other These changes have made organized sports an attractive option for parents that cannot always keep a close eye on their kids The parents of these children know that organized sports programs provide a safe environment where their kids can have fun If a kid does not participate in sports they may have an abundance of free time that could lead them to many negative situations There are many illegal activities that kids can become easily involved with suck as drugs alcohol and unsafe sex But there are also perfectly legal activities like watching television playing video games and eating junk food which in excessive amount can be just as dangerous Eating excessive junk food and sitting around all day can make a higher risk for heart disease On the other hand kids that who get regular exercise have bigger hearts stronger bones less fatty tissue
