Whenever I would hear about Alfred Hitchcock I would always listen to people say what a geniuses he was That his style of filmmaking was different from anyone else I really had no clue what they were talking about I used to watch his half hour TV shows on Nick at Nite when I was a kid and I dont even remember them so well When we watched Vertigo in class I got my first real taste of this directors work I t was a really good movie It defiantly held my interest But class was just starting and other then it just being a good story I didnt appreciate what made him such an innovative director Psycho was the first movie I watched on my own looking for certain areas of the film to make it stand out from other movies I have seen before My sister and I rented it bought some candy and popped it in the DVD player I already knew the basic story A guy has a motel and a woman gets killed in a shower if I was not in this film class that is what I would have seen Since I have been learning what to look for in a movie I saw so much more and can better understand why so many people say Hitchcock was so ahead of his time Tension is what I felt from the movie from the second it started The music makes me feel this way It gives me the feeling of fingernails scratching on a chalkboard Also in the opening credits all you so is straight stark horizontal lines going in and out In the opening scene it is one of romance and yet very drastic colors Nothing is soft or rounded The background is basically black and the actors are in dressed in all white The shadows are very intense as well To me these stark colors and hard lines
