One of the most basic assertions held by the majority within modern society is the belief in a being known as God Societies throughout history have held varied beliefs in terms of their faith in a higher power at times holding the belief in a multitude of gods Beginning with the inception of Judaism which gave root to the religions of Christianity and Islam the worship of a single God has become the predominant faith in the world These dominant monotheistic religions all share the belief in this unitary higher being a creator of sorts who is viewed as responsible for the establishment of all that we know including ourselves Is this assertion sound given that no individual actually has any tangible proof of the existence of this higher being There are plenty of ancient texts such as the Bible and the Koran which confer upon us apparent knowledge of his work and existence These books have become the core guides for our religions leading people to worship God through simply reciting their words To many of the followers of these religions these books are proof enough in God But can we as independently minded beings simply take the word of these texts at face value without any further evidence to lead us to this belief Can we believe that the existence of these texts is proof enough that there is a God Since the beginnings of modern science humans have questioned many of the notions we have been held to be truths finding clear evidence discounting some of these beliefs It has been discovered through science that humans were not created mystically and placed on Earth through some divine means- we are the products of evolution the descendants of primates While it is hard to disprove the existence of something intangible by disproving this core belief of the faith surrounding God one must wonder about the soundness of our belief in God
