The Epic of Gilgamesh is very interesting to Christians because it is very similar to Noah and his ark in the bible In both events a great flood takes place A flood destroys most of mankind except for those on the ark These floods represent rebirth a new beginning for mankind and the gods or Gods wrath God decided it would rain on Earth for forty days and forty nights and the flood would last 150 days The gods cry in the Epic of Gilgamesh Their tears became rain and last for six days and nights After the flood a bird is released to find land In the Bible Noah releases a bird to find land The stories are comparedin several significant ways In both stories mankind was destroyed Mankind however was destroyed for different reasons God floods the earth because men are wicked and the earth is full of violence God felt as if the wickedness of man had taken over the Earth The flood destroyed his creation which has become corrupt and evil Enlil wants to destroy man because the uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible Noah was told to build an ark God told him to put the door of the ark on the side and the ark should have upper middle and lower decksThe ark was 300 cubits long 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high The roof was finished within a cubit from the top and the ark was shaped like a rectangle The ark in Gilgamesh was shaped like a square and boat built by Utnapishtim The boat measured 120 cubits on each side and the ground space was one acre Six decks were divided into nine sections In both storiesa good man is saved Utnapishtim is saved because he obeys the gods order to build a boat Noah was saved and he
