A famous Philosopher Ingrid Bengis once quoted that For me words are a form of action capable of influencing change this quote along with many other texts enlightens ones understanding of the meaning of change Change is the transformation of an individual in response to various kinds of stimuli This change and its consequences have been encapsulated by the texts The Stolen Children edited by Carmel Bird The Door by Miroslav Holub Southpaw by Ken Wills and Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin These texts utilize techniques such as imagery metaphor emotive language juxtaposition and various film techniques in order to portray various aspects of a changing perspective Birds book The Stolen Generation is a collection of documents and personal stories from the Report Bringing them Home collectively expressing the experiences of Indigenous Australians in response to government policy One of the stolen children William tells his story from the perspective of an adult William opens with the childhood reflection of the death of his mother which leads to incomplete memories of his life His childhood lack of understanding of the events he was involved in I was a child and I thought I was going on a trip emphasizes the simplistic imagery that runs through the childs young mind This is juxtaposed with the horrific experiences administered during foster care The repetition of raped me creates a contrast of images that reinforces the horror of the experience After the rape William was shunted from place to place and became an isolated child William recalls I had no-one indicating he was in need for help The perspectives of those in power Hes an Aboriginal kid hell never improve reflects how power has control to destroy ones life As a consequence we see Williams perspectives as an adult I suffer today I still suffer These memories restrain William to the extent he cant even talk to his brothers William feels
