Panama It Is The year is 1835 and an announcement is mad eby a group of American busnessmen This announcement is of their intention to build a canal system on the ithsmus of landformerly known as Norhtern Calumbia That land is now known as Panama The citizens of the US at that time were in search of many things These thing were imperialistically in favor of the Americans These economy-boosting adventures were risky and the United states soon found that very fact out The Canal in Pamana turned out to be very beeficial to the United States as it was not the only country thinking of building and controlling it France being the first one to start construction on the canal when their efforts fell short and they left the canal unfinished the United States Stepped in and resumed construction Our efforts did not fall short despite a few setbacks but the US finished the canal ahead of schedule and under budget The first and foremost reason for the canal in Panama was trade One must understand that the canal and the canal zone the area around the canal are very crucial to the success of global trade Prior to the constructin of the canal there were a few large sea ports on either side of the ithsmus and also ther norhtern aprt of South Amerixa The cargo that entered these ports was freighted across the ithsmus via a small trans-continental railroad Probably te most valuable of this cargo was the gold that was mined in California during the great rush in the 1850s This gold was then shipped further south and also to china to be used a ceremonial jewelry and also to made into useful thinga All this was taking place before the United Staetes built its own trasn-continental railroad The canal has strategic significance due to its location serving as a gateway between the Pacific and
