For my three activities I choose to attend three of the Information Technology seminars sponsored by the Partners in Business There were held on January 23-24 The first seminar that I attended was on Video Conferencing given by LeAnn Donne She stated that video conferencing has been around for twenty years but has really exploded during the past five years She also stated the fact that since the events of September 11 the awareness of video conferencing has heightened but it still isnt being used any more than it had been prior to those events The average cost of a monthly meeting with clients cost 4200 this price is drastically cut with the use of video conferencing Ms Donne also talked how the market is about to explode and there is only one thing that holds it back This is the fact that people in general dont like sitting in front of and talking to a camera The second seminar that I attended was Keeping America Plugged In by Alan Katz He pointed out several interesting factors throughout his presentation He stated that IT infrastructure and power sensitive devices consume 15 of the nations electricity and by 2010 it is expected to rise to 25-35 He also explained how in the next few years bandwidth is expected to grow 10-30 times which I find amazing When asked about an energy crisis he stated that it is due to the distribution of the energy but necessarily the lack of it He believes that in the future you are more likely to see smaller local distributed power plants rather than mega-sized plants Another interesting thing he said was that a 4-15 millisecond blink in power will bring most equipment down The third seminar was on Cyber Attacks by David Rowe He spoke on how traditional virus behavior is generally through email attachments He also stated that the Code Red Virus infected 250000 hosts
