A poem is a short story that is used to express feelings or past experiences in which the writer was influenced A poem can involve of all types of topics love death or anything that falls underneath the spectrum of human comprehension A poem and a song can be considered similar if it follows a certain standard Some songs are not just a combination of a melody or lyrics but an arrangement of metaphors and kennings that can be misinterpreted A song is put together lyrically to be sung and just like a poem tells a story Like some of the earliest poems they were distrusted orally like Beowulf Songs are often the same they are not meant to be read but to be heard Each usually expresses how an author is feeling or past experiences that they have or wish to encounter They are both usually filled with emotions or a lesson When people listen to songs today they typically listen to the beat instead of the words People tend to get lost in the beat and do not have a clue what the song is about In my opinion the lyric of a song is very important The lyric portrays what the song is about and confirm the meaningHave you ever known all the words to a song and but not really know what the song is about This falls under the category of not understanding the meaning behind lyrics In the Grammy winner Frank Oceans song Thinkin bout you relates to poetry in so many ways it speaks beyond what the lyrics is saying just as a poem would This song is about gay relations Listening to this song you dont get the feeling that the singer is speaking about another guy because we tend to get all tied up in listening to the beat and not concerned about what the lyrics are portraying The lyrics to a song holds value it
