The US government consists of three branches which are the following the Legislative Branch the Executive Branch and the Judicial Branch These branches were created because the framers of the constitution or also known as the founding fathers wanted to form a government that did not allow any one person to have too much authority or control They did this because previously while under the rule of the British king they learned that this could be a bad system They also knew that they needed a strong centralized government With this in mind they wrote the constitution which provided them with a system in which they divided the powers and duties in to different branches also known as the separation of powers Each of the branches has its own responsibility and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly One of the branches is the Legislative branch This branch is made up of the Congress and Government agencies this includes the House of representatives and the Senate The constitution gave this branch the power of making laws Another branch of the United States government is the Judicial Branch This branch is made up of the court system this includes the supreme court The supreme court is the highest court in the United States Courts decide arguments about the meaning of laws how they are applied and whether they break the rules of the Constitution The last branch to mention would be the Executive branch This branch consists of the President Vice- President and the Cabinet members The Executive branch of Government enforces the laws of the United States Each branch checks and balances each other because as you can each branch has a certain responsibility to the country and with out one another the constitution wont work as well as it does now An example of check and balances would be like this the President can veto
