Warren G Harding was thought to be one of the worst presidents of all time There are not too many people who would say that he was good Warren Harding was the 29th president of the United States He was inaugurated on March 4 1921 Harding had won this election by a landslide gaining 60 percent of the popular vote Harry Daugherty and man from Ohio soon gained a liking for Harding and began to promote him stating He Looked like a president But while Harding had the appearance of a good guy his administration was riddled with scandals His republican campaign slogan was Back to Normalcy with Harding But it was very unclear what exactly he meant It was especially difficult to determine from Hardings speeches whether he was for or against American entrance into the League of Nations There were also many things that were not normal for America Harding allowed for Nevada to become the first state to legalize executions but lethal gas in 1921 Also in 1921 On May 19 the first Immigration Quota Act was passed One good thing about Hardings administration however is that Mrs Alice M Robertson of Oklahoma was the first Congresswoman to preside over the House or Representatives But there were of course bad times tooThe conduct of several of his cabinet members brought considerable criticism against the president and the Republican party This was known as the Teapot Dome Affair The Teapot Dome Affair was perhaps the most important scandal of Hardings administration After jurisdiction over naval oil reserves were transferred to the Department of the Interior secretary Albert B Fall leased Teapot Dome to oil interests in exchange for money He eventually spent time in a federal prison because of his actions The incident also resulted in the resignation of Secretary of Navy Edwin N Denby who had approved the transfer of
