Bridget's feedback:
"This is a lively engagement with the characters of Shakespeare's play, and you are off to a good start in structuring the essay around the characters and noting how their full arcs inform any interpretation. As you move forward, spend some time clarifying your thesis and making sure it is consistent and clearly expressed across the essay. In this current draft, you bring up two related issues: character flaws and responsibility. This intersects with questions of who is at fault for various downfalls and who can be considered a victim. You suggest that personal responsibility and victimhood can, in fact, overlap; however, the reader needs to pick through the thesis statement and the conclusion to come up with this unified idea. Anticipate the reader's needs by making sure your conceptual and analytical moving parts are expressed in the thesis.
Another recommendation is to avoid proposing what might have happened at the end; related to this suggestion, the overview of Shakespeare's career and the claim that Macbeth is his greatest work doesn't feel fully efficient in getting the reader to the main focus. It also suggests a separate project (why Macbeth is the greatest) that doesn't bear out. I recommend a different approach to the hook and opening.
Regarding the lower-order concerns, you will want to proofread to catch errors and, along the way, vet overly casual diction ("the real brains"), the appropriateness of which will depend on your prompt and instructor expectations."
