Man has long sought to eradicate poverty from the world and has theorized for centuries on how to create more ideal societies In recent times there has been a considerable amount of attention that has been given to Africawith many economists questioning what could be the most effective way to relieve this continent of its underdeveloped infrastructure and destitute communitiesUndoubtedly giving alms to Africa remains one of the greatest ideas of our time millions march for it governments are judged for it and celebrities proselytize the need for it The call for aid is growing louder with advocates pushing to increase the tens of billions of international assistance already being funded Yet evidence overwhelming demonstrates that foreign aid to Africa has made the poor poorer and the growth slower The insidious aid culture had left African countries more in debt more prone to inflation more vulnerable to the changes in currency markets and unattractive to higher quality investments It hasincreased the risk for civil unrest and conflict due to corruption and has created paternalistic donorcountries resulting in Africas dependencyStill many humanitarian organizations argue that certain countries need this aid to feed their children and afford health care Few will deny the clear moral imperative for humanitarian and charity based aid to step in when necessary However this is small compared to the billions given from rich countries to Africa Government to government aid is delaying the development of Africa though the corruption of plutocratic officials and creating dependency across the region all while destroying any chance of improvement of financial resources Africas goal of economic growth and alleviation from poverty cannot be achieved in an environment that is rife with corruption Aid flows that are destined to go to African citizens ends up in the hands of bureaucracies with few strings attached At a very basic level officials use aid money which is set aside to pay for public welfare for personal use This is
