Touching on the history of the Civil War and slowly bringing the narrative to present day helps the reader get a sense of how we got where we are now. However, this paper makes a number of claims that are either factually inaccurate or very broad. For instance, as it is written, you seem to say that Lincoln ran on the platform of abolishing slavery (which was not the case) and ending the war (which hadn't begun yet). The portrayal of Black Americans and White Southerners as two distinct homogenous groups feels like an oversimplification that can damage the credibility of the essay.
