Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a hippopotamus as a house pet Well first of all you cant cuddle with them at all like you can with a cat or a dog Hippos take you a lot of space and they smell really bad But on the other hand they are really quiet and they dont need a lot of attention If you were to have a hippopotamus living at your house you would have to have a very big lawn Hippos eat grass and eat up to 40kg each day You would also have to get a bathing pool Hippos spend up to 18 hours everyday in the water They wont share a bath and the average garden fishpond is too small A large African river would be good Hippos wouldnt use a litter tray and finding one large enough can be a problem You cant take a hippo places because they are to big they wont fit in your car A full-grown hippopotamus climbing over the back seat of your car can be very distracting There really isnt any point in putting a collar on your hippo either If it wanders off it would be spotted it pretty quickly Dont bother to try to take your pet hippo for walks Hippos need little grooming as they have very little fur Also consider do you really want to groom hippo nose hair You would also have to clean their teeth Hippos teeth grow up to 50cm You would have to use a brush with a very long handle But to sum it all up dont get a hippopotamus as a pet They are dirty smelly and they take up too much space You would have to always have extra grass and a very big back yard So if you are planning on getting a house pet I would suggest a dog or cat you can cuddle with
