It is the year 2010 As you pick up your daily issue of The New York Times you begin to read some of the articles on the front page The top story of the paper reads Germany Wins All Gold Medals at the Olympic Games Is Cloning in Competitive Events Fair Other interesting articles reported on the front page include Rock Star and Lovers Nuclear Transplanted Child is Born and Former President George Bushs Cloned Heart Transplant A Success All of these articles on the front page show how much cloning has become a more apparent in our lives This manipulation of the human body has now become more than an experiment Its results are shown to be successful resulting in people to wonder what is next to come Since the dawn of mankind humans have struggled to understand how and when life begins Through countless developments in medicine and science a much better understanding of the origin of life exists as well as how the body itself works Although these articles would have seemed science fiction several years ago the idea of cloning became a reality in 1997 On February 27 1997 it was reported that scientists produced the first clone of an adult sheep attracting international attention and raising questions of whether cloning is an ethnical issue concerning our nation and world Cloning is not a new experiment Experiments with frogs and toads date back to the 1970s Experiments involving plants and animal embryos have been performed for years but experiments involving human beings have never been tried or thought possible until the cloned sheep Dolly Her birth shocked the scientific community and has spurred discussion about the possibility of human clones Cloning has sparked controversies over the past few years With the race to map the DNA and the completion of cloning it has steered up the imagination of our society Because of the mass media the concept of one being cloned
