Outcast A lot is learned about ones self when he travels outside his home When he finds himself surrounded by nothing like himself the comfort zone that he had is diminished An example of this is when I have made trips up North with my family to work in the fields during the first 16 summers of my life The whole trip made me feel like an outcast of the society by which this country is run On the way up there as soon as you dont see anyone who resembles any part of you it begins Having to stop at a truck stop to gas up the truck is an experience I will never forget until death As I step off the truck I can already feel the peoples eyes looking at my family and me as if we were the main attraction in a carnival sideshow They start closing their doors raising their windows and calling their children in in fear of us harming them Then I make my way toward the store Most people shudder and hurry out of my way so as not to bump into me The others would bump into me purposely and look at me in anger What am I to them Am I not a person just because I dont look them Finally after putting up with so much criticism and hatred we have to tolerate more Going to the shopping mall is another event in which I have been subjected to demeaning I would have so pleased if a sales associate would follow me around the store and be ready to help me back home like they did there but they dont And at first this seemed very courteous to me but then it got awkward and I caught on to what the real case was It was something in how they were always there staring at me even when they were attending other customers As
