This essay is an argument for an English 1C Class This essay argues for adding fluoride to the citys water supply it adresses some of the oposing arguments as well as the health benifits of fluoride Fluoride Recently here in Shasta County the Redding city council voted to fluoridate the citys water supply in response to this decision a group of citizens petitioned to have the issue placed on the ballot so that the people could decide whether or not to fluoridate the citys water supply They received enough signatures to have the issue voted upon as Measure A The Clean Water Act Measure A of course passed and therefore stopped the cities water from being fluoridated The people behind Measure A used the slogan The Clean Water Act to mislead the public about the issue there campaign strategy behind Measure A was lets keep the water clean Any person not completely familiar with the issue or the effects of fluoride would obviously vote yes on something called The Clean Water Act without even knowing that the real issue was about adding a very beneficial substance to the water Adding fluoride to the water has many advantages that definitely outweigh the disadvantages and had the public been more thoroughly educated about fluoridation the outcome of measure A probably would have gone the other way Fluoride is the only substance known to man that is able to strengthen the enamel of the teeth it has been proven to reduce decay by up to 70 percent when used regularly by young children until the age of 12 and it can reduce root decay by 10 to 15 percent when used by adults There are only two methods of receiving fluoride by taking a pill and by drinking it in the water true many types of toothpaste contain fluoride but the only way to receive its full benefits is by getting it into the bloodstream which it
