Comparing and Contrasting the Philosophies of Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois

This essay compares the contrasting approaches to Black American advancement as advocated by gradualist Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois, who argued for direct political action. Noting that both figures paved the way for the Civil Rights Movement, the student writes that Du Bois' radicalism proved more relevant, in hindsight, to the realities of White racism.
