Without Prayer in Public Schools I What happened to prayer in public schools A The Removal of Religion in School B The day God was kicked out of School II Religion Guidance A Lack of religion Guidance 1 Dropout rate 2 Sex before marriage III Laws of the Bible A Scriptures IV Personal Opinion A Personal experience VConclusion A Reinstate school prayer Without Prayer in School Even though public schools today are without school prayer most schools have replaced prayer with a moment of silence The statement Separation of Church and State and atheism has made it possible to remove prayer from schools I disagree with the US Constitution removing this act from schools I believe that prayer should be re-instated into schools because children in todays society need religion guidance In February 1963 the US Supreme Court heard a first amendment case Abington Township school District v Schempp This case was better know as one that kicked God and Prayer out of the schools This case pursued litigation to purge 1949 Pennsylvania state law providing mandatory devotional Bible reading in public schools statewide In June the court ruled against Abington Township school district Although this was not the first case involving religious expression to reach the Supreme Court Abington Township school District v Schempp was the impetus of perhaps the most vituperative debate regarding religion on and its place in our school system up to that time This case raised thorny constitutional and social issues like no other cases preceding it There were several cases that were heard by the Supreme Court including a similar Maryland case renowned by atheist Madalyn Murray that opposed prayer and Bible reading in public schools Corbett 1995 I feel that public schools should teach the laws of the Bible because this will give guidance to students that do not have any sense of morals I believe knowledge
