Essay Russian Oil and Conspiracy Theories In the year 2000 oil prices have been outrageous They have sky rocketed to above 30 a barrel But in 2001 they have been steadily sliding down thanks to the economical slowdown they have dropped to as low as 11 a barrel Right now they are between 17 and 18 a barrel OPEC is now eliminating some production and attempting to get some non-OPEC members around the globe to go around Norway Mexico and Oman have agreed to follow them Thanks to Russia not agreeing to cut their production OPEC wont cut their own production and oil prices will not suffer So without Russias cooperation oil prices will stay low Every 1 decrese in the price of an oil barrel cuts close to 1000000000 in Russian earnings Chances are if Russia controls their oil prices right they might be able to over throw OPEC and be dominant in the oil market So by Russia keeping oil prices low between 15 and 18 OPEC will have trouble surviving financially I dont really care what happenings I just want oil prices to stay low so that gas prices stay low Another version of this conspiracy theory is that the United States is plotting to destroy the Saudis Osama Bin Laden is Saudi after And if you think about it so is his money This could happen though As long as Russian keeps control and doesnt get greedy we could wash Saudis away financially And a country without funds will not be able to survive and another country could come in and take over Another way to look at it is that Russia wanted to cut production but had so very little control over its oil producers that it didnt happen or they knew it wouldnt and so therefore didnt even attempt to The truth is that whatever the government thinks about it high production levels with lower prices suits the
