Underage Drinking What is college about is a question that many people ask when the time comes to consider what one wants to do with the next four years of their life One popular answer might be One giant party This notion is notable almost instantaneously once someone has entered the college atmosphere One could also note how easy it is to obtain the most popular party favor alcohol And one could also point out where most of the alcohol is coming from fraternities Fraternities are notorious for their drinking and partying and its no surprise that many of the people partying with them are minors who are illegally drinking at almost all of the functions This is a incredibly severe problem that needs fixing Entering freshman who need to focus on schoolwork are being constantly pressured to drink at parties where alcohol is readily available College students who reported D and F GPAs averaged 9 drinks per weekwwwmaddorg The availability of alcohol to minors needs to be reduced dramatically in order to help prevent many alcohol related accidents allow new students to focus on their schoolwork and to stay in accordance with the law Fraternities need to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors so that they may present a positive responsible image of themselves and the University of Texas Being a student myself I have noticed how readily available the alcohol actually is There is no identification check of any significance at any of the fraternity functions Once inside there is no limit to who can consume alcohol nor is there any type of regulation on how much one can drink For instance at parties located at the fraternity houses the most that they ever do to isolate minors from the legal ones is by merely asking age and then if the person is underage they receive two black Xs on their hands The same goes for parties thrown down
