However, an in-depth edit is needed to clear up awkward wording, some grammar mistakes, and word choices that make the paper difficult to read. Pay special attention to subject-verb agreement, possessives, and run-on sentences. Although formal language should be used in an academic paper, make sure you are not using words simply because they "sound" formal. Specifically, the term "utilize" does not carry the same meaning of "use" and is only applicable when something is being used in an innovative or unintended way."
