A Sunday on la Grande jatte The painting titled A Sunday on la grande jattewas done by Georges seurat in 1884-1886This painting could be a representative of his works because it represents his particular style well among his numerous works First of all what I first see in this painting is about forty figures that are standing or seated and a couple of animals along the river And also there are a number of canoes and sailboats on the river The size of this painting looks really big The whole mood looks very calm and settled Even though my first reaction about this painting was simple and common I was strongly affected by his exquisite style when I came close to the painting and observe it specifically While I saw his painting I was fascinated by his particular style which is known as divisionism or pointillism Pointillism means A painting technique characterized by the application of paint in small dots that blend together when seen from a distancein a dictionary I could see this particular technique in most of his paintings as well as A Sunday on la grande jatteThis technique is the most remarkable factor to recognize his painting Seurats dots may be seen as a kind of collage Even though he applied his pigment in small divided dots the colors of each object look blended and harmonious with the depth of colors like collage I could find some of elements formally He used almost blue red yellow and green colors which are his fundamental colors in this painting He also mixed colors and made intermediate hues like violet-red
