Daycare providers are much more than just babysitters they are licensed professionals who nurture and provide for children whether it be in a home setting or a daycare facility Daycare providers play a very important role in a childs development and wellbeing through games exercise and a variety of activities throughout the dayI had the opportunity to interview Nicole Menard a Chicopee MA resident for most of her life Nicole knew at a young age that she loved children and eventually wanted to do some type of work with children Knowing exactly what she wanted to do Nicole attended and graduated from Springfield Technical Community College with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood After graduation she went on to work at her friends child care center being an assistant She truly loved working there and learned a lot of new things that would help her decide if opening her own center would be the right choice for her which indeed wasNicole has approximately five children ages 1-4 in her care Monday through Friday She explains that being a provider is the same thing as working a regular 9-5 job She is entitled to vacation sick and personal time Although she rarely ever uses it its still a benefit that she has in the event that she would need it Nicoles Busy Bee Center is closed on all major holidays and she does receive pay from the parents when the center is closed She explains that charging while the center is closed is a personally preference and expresses that some child care centers do not charge but the majority of them doA sick policy is in place at Nicoles Busy Bees if a child has been vomiting and running a fever she asks that the parents keep the child home for at least 24 hours She would hope that a parent would have enough consideration for all the
