America A country that was founded upon the idea of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness It is a land of freedom democracy and the distinguished American Dream It is a place where many people desire to visit and some day live out that American Dream Maybe thats the way it was a hundred fifty or even twenty-five years ago but I dont think it is anymore Today the United States of America is not as united as it once was The American Dream has been replaced by crime prejudice deception not only among all of us but in our government as well Some of the problems with American society is that our hearts and minds are taken over by greed violence and racism When the Declaration of independence was signed the groundwork for a country based on individual freedoms was laid Over the past two hundred years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence the ideas and foundations for which this country was built upon have nearly dissapeared In its place is a government that has become a living contradiction That for every thing America does over time it has caused a drastic and unwanted effect in its place A lot of the problems today can be traced along its roots back to our government While our history is full of success it also has a lot of failures to which almost equal if not overshadowing those achievements A lot of people say that if we dont learn from history then we are doomed to repeat it and our nation has been repeating the mistakes of the past instead of creating a new and better future for all of us Many of us want to move beyond our past into the future while others are more determined and doomed to relive it With all the problems facing America today crime violence drugs disease war poverty education welfare corrupt government
