Jared Badenhop Psychology 200 8-30-00 American Past Time People watchingwe all do it no doubts there But is there a method behind the madness Can anything be salvaged from such a seemingly worthless action Hey signs are saying yes These signs are saying that the way one may read facial expressions may be a way of knowing such qualities about the person on another level Reading expressions such as their mood how they would respond to a social situation is a way to see into someones personality to an extent So it seems the old saying is truea smile is worth a thousand words Scientists are getting in on the old American pastime of people watching with one exception They are not just out for the pleasure of actually watching they are studying these expressions for some sort of scientific purpose SociologistsPsychologists are getting in on the action as well They are trying to figure out if there is some sort of cultural rules that people abide by with their facial expressions a gentlemens conduct for the expressions They are trying to discover why certain expressions mean what they do and why these expressions are used There are many different types of facial expressions in the arsenal a human face has Over 5000 expressions are in possession to be exact These expressions though can have outside factors that can affect how they operate Things such as mental illnesses and sickness These factors can take away or add expressions that one may have never used before Dedicated people are trying to figure out the reasons behind why it is so hard to read another persons facial expressions and rightfully so It is hard to read the expressions and knowing the difference between what one shows and what one person may mean can be labeled as a most valuable asset It is almost considered a divine destiny to human evolution to make an attempt
